Dusen Dusen F/W 2013

photos by Gabrielle Lurie for Dusen Dusen via Refinery

My favorite pieces/looks from the Dusen Dusen F/W 2013 line (PANTS!). I don't subscribe to Refinery anymore so I forget that everyone has probably already seen these, but whatever.

Gonna go stalk these pieces and more at Capsule this weekend even though (shhhh) I have no real reason for being there. I'm opening a store, obvi, guys...got a tax ID and everything...

Wednesday

photo from the Polkaros blog

Vases made of bottles and twine by Ros Lee of Polkaros for the current issue of Frankie. Rather rad DIY.

Monday

scenes from brighter days

Fine Little Day for UO oven mitt, Middle Kingdom and Object & Totem ceramics, random shit I've accumulated, Miriam Brugmann planter, and a plant I'm surprised is still living.

I'm currently preoccupied with:
  • ...how disillusioned I would have been at the age of 11 if I had known then about Leo's Pussy Posse. David Blaine?!
  • ...the FAIL that is Zac Posen in replacing Michael Kors as a judge on Project Runway (does anyone else still watch this show?).
  • ...PRINTS! So excited for Spring and the upcoming Dusen Dusen collection, in addition to the new pieces in Leah's Etsy shop. And I realized from a post on Sophie's blog that I've never discussed Lazy Oaf here (more on that and my stationery obsession another time).
  • ...how much Macklemore resembles my creepy band teacher from middle school...and they share the same surname...cousins???
  • ...Fresh Meat. And my continued HATRED for Girls.

It's Okay My Dear - Spring 2013

whaddup, whaddup

I deleted this blog but then realized how much I missed blogging so it's back on.

BUT ANYWAY, last year for (chaperoning) prom I decided to treat my(yo)self and fulfill a dream I documented the month I started this blog over three years ago and bought myself an It's Okay My Dear Circle Dress. I LOVE this dress - the color, the cut, the luxurious feel of the fabric. And Ashley was very helpful in tailoring it to my specifications, so it was money well spent. Slash my friend and I were really the only ones dancing for 3/5ths of the night, so it got its workout on the dance floor.

SUPER EXCITED that the dress, among many other lovelies, are to be available in the It's Okay My Dear Spring 2013 collection, with some already available for pre-sale AT A DISCOUNT(!) in Ashley's Etsy store. Some photos from the lookbook below:

I didn't want to make it one of those posts, but...

...I feel like such the proud auntie these days.

that's why teachers show videos?

It seems all the teachers I know have been teaching for at least the past week. We finally get our kids this week...on Friday...for a half day...because people that run things here are geniuses.

Thinking of this, I was reminded of one of my favorite bits from John Mulaney's New in Town from earlier this year. Skip to the 1:01 mark. Sounds familiar.

The first minute of the clip also explains my logic/behavior pretty succinctly, and thusly why I make a horrible friend.

Happy school year, friends! Only four more months until we die...two months short of me getting my next pay raise, damn.

And two more clips if you're bored. And these two, too.

Friday

birthdays and such

Had a number of friends with birthdays in July and August (don't know what that says about the parental generation and the autumn/winter months), and thoroughly enjoyed scouring the internet for the perfect cards for each (and stocking the stash, a favored hobby of mine). Came across these Signe Sugar decorations via Design Sponge at the beginning of the month, so this is somewhat dated/I'm sure many have already seen them, but I think they'd make for an even prettier present than most.

Oh! And I almost forgot another very special July birthday... About a month ago my sister finally pushed out her child spawn, making me an auntie/godmother for the first time over. I'm not an overly sentimental person and am slow to fawn over children (sorry, working with the youth of the East Coast for almost a decade now has turned my heart to stone), but he's pretty cute. I'll get used to this new dynamic some day, though as you can see in the latter (sheisty phone) photo, Lola already has. And from what I've been reading these past few months, there are so many new (slash repeat) mommies on the internet...congrats to you all!

Wednesday

a digression and crazysexycool links

Card from NeonKitchen on Etsy...I plan on buying at least a half dozen. Distribute to the local males, obviously. Not really.

It's rather depressing not having a TV during the Olympics, especially when you're bored senseless from having the summer off work and NBC refuses to stream coverage online (slash I can't sign into my Comcast account...wonder if that has something to do with all of those unpaid bills...). But Buzzfeed has been getting me through the monotony and deprivation. See (and lust after, if you haven't been doing so already): the German male gymnastics team and the Olympics/gay porn quandary. S(zzzzzz)uper s(z)exxxxxxxy!

So being the model of productivity that I am now, I've spent the last month and a half catching up on TV shows I've never watched. I include among the three loves of my life Lola, retail therapy, and HBO Go, but I've only just gotten around to watching Game of Thrones. I had watched the first episode at my parent's house last year, but I took it for some over-sexed (WHAT?? this is a foreign concept) fantasy p.o.s. and decided not to continue watching. I attribute these feelings to the fact that I was multitasking (a.k.a. looking for shit to buy online, per the usual) and was viewing the pilot with my siblings, thus breaking my cardinal rule of never watching HBO dramas with family (it's a rule for an obvious reason). LONG STORY SHORT: if sexing a photo was possible, this would be the one I'd choose.

And Iwan Rhoen's joining for season 3?! Bless my stars, the casting directors of True Blood may have met their match.

Though I will say this has been the summer of premium gossip, and I've been reveling in that. First Katie Holmes, now the Twihards. I don't want to wish ill on anyone (a total lie), but I hope that scandals come in threes. For my maniacal, pathetic, self-centered amusement. And because I'm running out of TV shows.

Monday

jonna x kangan

Very excited by the Jonna x Kangan collab that premiered this morning on Supermarket Sarah. My apartment could use a colorful pick-me-up right now, and those textile designs are right up the correct alley of rad.

And it would be nice to have a good chai recipe on hand.
